YWCA Equality

No initiative is more central to our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women than Racial Justice. Through dialogue, action and advocacy, our programs increase interaction and dialogue among individuals of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. By doing this we impact their assumptions and attitudes about race and ethnicity. The YWCA serves as a resource for the community to improve race relations at the grassroots level.

Our Racial Justice initiative began in 1998 as a partnership with the League of Women Voters. Since that time we’ve served thousands in our region as we strive to achieve three main objectives:

  • To increase the interaction and dialogue among individuals of different racial and ethnic backgrounds in the Triangle area;
  • To impact individual assumptions and attitudes about race and ethnicity;
  • To serve as a resource for increasing awareness of opportunities for individuals to improve race relations.
